Smash Pumpkins in Plainfield

Plainfield Township is offering their first Pumpkin Smash event on Sat, Nov 4, 2023 from 9am to Noon and everyone is welcome to attend. Bring a "clean" pumpkin, gourd or squash for some family fun. Participants will take turns tossing their jack-o-lanterns in the air and watching them smash into small pieces that will be taken to be composted, returning all those nutrients to the Earth.
Everyone is invited to bring "clean" pumpkins, gourds and squash to Plainifled Township. We do ask that they are free of decorations as glue and fabrics and even glitter can contiminate the compost. If painted, be sure it is water based paint as oil paints are toxic. Naked Pumpkins Only! No candles, bags or boxes!
The Township is also providing composting brochures to anyone interested in learning how to compost in your own yard to make your own natural fertilizer.
This is a chance for a decorative natural item to be recycled, as all the pumpkins collected will be taken to a site to be mixed and composted. Eventually they will become a highly nutritious soil supplement, feeding future crops, gardens - or perhaps a new pumpkin patch! Be part of the fun and bring your family or friends to enjoy this fun event.
