National Battery Day is celebrated on February 18th to honor the invention of the electric battery by Alessandro Volta in 1800. It's also a day to recognize the importance of batteries in our lives and to promote safe battery storage and recycling.
The convenience of powering items with batteries is monumental. Batteries are part of our daily lives, in our cell phones, watches, calculators, laptops, flashlights, smoke detectors, automobiles, toys and much more. When they cease holding power, we must know how to safely store them until they can be taken to a recycling collection site.
