Joliet residents are invited to bring up to two boxes of personal papers and documents to observe the on-site mobile shredding process by Shred X, a local business specializing in document destruction. Residents must show proof of Joliet residency to participate in this event. Papers include: Medical records, Legal papers, Canceled checks, Bank/financial statements, Credit card statements or offers, All shredded paper will be recycled.

Bring unwanted household chemicals such as oil-based paint, stains and variishes, along with oil, antifreeze, old gasoline, brake fluid, pesticides, fertilizers, cleaning products and more to this one-day collection event. It is free of charge for Will County residents. Mercury and most mercury containing items are accepted. Other items include: pool chemicals, recharagable batteries, lead-acid batteries, compact fluorescent lights, aerosol products and lawn chemicals.

Earth Day is the perfect occasion to get reacquainted with one of the Earth's most precious resources. "Celebrate Water" is a family-friendly water festival with exhibits on water conservation and recreation, presentations on water topics, children's stories and art, outdoor displays and activities, and lots of hands-on educational fun. Visitors will be immersed in the many manifestations of the miraculous water molecule. Held at Four Rivers Environmental Education Center in Channahon.
