Resource Recovery & Energy Community Involvement
The Resource Recovery and Energy Division tries to assist environmental community groups by making employees available as liaisons to these groups when appropriate. Over the past few years, a number of groups have been created that share similar goals to one another and to the division.
Since 2007, staff has assisted New Lenox Sharefest in their stewardship efforts.
In 2010 the Joliet/Will County Project Pride Green Group partnered with the division to promote worm bins in school classrooms.
In 2010 the division worked with a new Joliet group dedicated to organizing an annual Earth Day celebration. It was called GR2010. The division has subsequently worked on GR2011 and GR2012.
Since 2014, staff has been working with the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate on their Bluestem Earth Festival. The Bluestem Earth Festival is committed to "Empowering individuals and families to live more sustainable, socially responsible lifestyles". In 2016, the Festival had 70-eco-conscious exhibits, vendors, earth-friendly activities, workshops, live demos, entertainment, local food and children's activities. Go to www.bluestemearthfestival.com for highlights of the last three events.
In 2016, staff organized a "Fairmont Community Earth Day" to coorespond with the Helpers of Mother Earth's "Fairmont Community Clean-Up Day".
