Address Air Pollution from Diesel - C.A.R.E.

06:00 PM - 07:30 PM

On Monday, October 17, Citizens Against Ruining the Environment (CARE) welcomes Brian Urbaszewski from Respiratory Health Association for a presentation and discussion on legislation in Illinois that would require 30% of new medium and heavy-duty truck sales to be electric/zero-emission by 2030.

The Informational Program is offered by C.A.R.E. and the Respiratory Health Association.

The Respiratory Health Association is a nonprofit organization that began in 1906 and works on issues that contribute to impaired lung health in Illinois residents.

This presentation will be held from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at

White Oak Library's Lockport Branch
121 East 8th Street
Lockport, IL 60441

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, diesel is the predominant fuel used for shipping goods and moving freight across the country and around the world.  Emissions from engines that burn diesel fuel contribute to air pollution that has serious human health and environmental effects, primarily heart disease and lung disease.  Diesel emissions can also harm animals, plants, crops, and vital water resources.

In Will County, Warehouses and distribution centers have increased considerably over the last twenty years, bringing larger numbers of heavy-duty trucks with diesel emissions.  CenterPoint Intermodal Center in Joliet/Elwood is the largest master-planned inland port in North America. The Respiratory Health Associate and other environmentally concerned organizations wish to find ways to reduce air pollution from diesel powered vehicles.  Exciting innovations are available in the form of Hydrogen and Electric power.
