Joliet Junior College was awarded a $296,243 rebate from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) for the energy efficient designs of both the Health Professions Center and the Natural Sciences expansion. Besides many sustainable features both buildings had, the rebate was awarded because projects exceeded the Illinois Energy Conservation Code. Will County partnered with Waste Management to build a landfill gas to energy facility at the Prairie View Landfill but the project has met with several delays related to connecting to the grid through ComEd. Still, the project is expected to generate power to 3,000 homes by the end of this year and generate revenue for green projects throughout Will County for years to come. Read More
