Smash Pumpkins in New Lenox 2024

09:00 AM - 12:00 PM

New Lenox Commons
1 Veterans Parkway
New Lenox, IL, 60451

815+462-6400

The Village of New Lenox is offering their second Pumpkin Smash event on Sat, Nov 2, 2024 from 9am to Noon and everyone is welcome to attend. Bring a "clean" pumpkin, gourd or squash for some family fun.

The Village of New Lenox is offering an environmentally friendly (not to mention FUN!) way to dispose of your pumpkins after Halloween. From 9:00 until noon, residents can bring their pumpkins to the Commons to drop off for composting.

By composting pumpkins instead of sending them to landfills, we not only reduce the amount of waste in landfills, but we also reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the amount of water in landfills, where it has to be monitored to avoid groundwater contamination.

Pumpkins
Guests can bring any pumpkins that they are looking to dispose of, whether carved or uncarved. Painted pumpkins are permitted - the majority of acrylic paints are compostable. Pumpkins may not contain any contaminants, such as candles, plastic pieces, or stickers. We will have a station set up where these items can be removed from pumpkins.

For those who wish to simply drop off their pumpkins for composting, there will be a designated space to pull your vehicle over and hand over your pumpkins. This drop-off zone will be located at Veterans Parkway and Gear near the digital marquee sign.

For those interested in smashing, we will have a variety of tools available for you to use, whether you want to smash, toss, or completely obliterate. We encourage you to dress to get messy, and we also recommend that you wear closed-toe shoes. We will have safety glasses available for all participants, but you are also welcome to bring your own.

Admission
Admission to this event is free. Guests of all ages are permitted.

Parking
A portion of Veterans Parkway will be closed for this event to accommodate the event activities. Limited parking is available on the street.

Parking is available in the south lot of the Village Hall and at Trinity Services. Parking is not available at the New Lenox Public Library or Old Plank Trail Community Bank. Please help us treat our neighbors with respect by leaving their parking lot open for their patrons until this designated time. We appreciate your courtesy.

Accessible parking is available in the New Lenox Police Department's administrative parking lot, located to the southeast of the New Lenox Police Department.

Food & Beverage
Wally's Waffles will be on site with fresh, loaded waffles, and Emerald Cup will also be joining us with a variety of coffee and warm beverages.

Additional Policies
No smoking is permitted on the Village Commons lawn during Village events. No pets are permitted in the Village Commons during Village events.
